Important Smoke Alarm Update for Queensland Homeowners – 2027 Deadline
By 1 January 2027, all Queensland homes must comply with updated smoke alarm legislation aimed at improving household safety.
To meet the new requirements, all smoke alarms in your home must be:
- Photoelectric (optical) and not contain ionisation sensors
Compliant with AS 3786:2014
Less than 10 years old
Hardwired to the mains power or powered by a 10-year non-removable battery
Interconnected with every other alarm in the dwelling so they all sound together
Where must they be installed?
- In every bedroom
- In hallways connecting bedrooms
- On every level of the home
If your home is already compliant due to a recent sale, lease, or renovation, you’re ahead of the curve. If not, now is the time to act — avoid last-minute rushes and ensure your family’s safety.
